Program Overview

The Two-Years Diploma program in Human Resource Management (HRM) is designed to provide students with both the conceptual and technical skills needed by the potential employers of HRM diploma graduates.  In this two-year HRM Diploma program, students will study several concentration courses in Human Resource Management, as well as business, economics, statistics and a variety of other skills necessary to the market needs. In addition to catering for the needs of entry level jobs in the market, the ECT HRM Diploma Courses may also be articulated with a Bachelor Program in Human Resource Management being offered in four-year colleges in the country and abroad.

Learning Outcomes

All graduates of ECT two-year Human Resource Management Diploma Program will have the ability to:

  • Explain the fundamental concepts, models and tools of human resource management functions.
  • Evaluate practices concerning recruitment and selection, performance management, training and development, labor relations, motivation, and compensation.
  • Identify and discuss legal principles and ethical implications of human resource management that apply to a wide range of workplace issues.
  • Demonstrate skills in negotiation and resolving disputes.
  • Use basic information technologies and study skills to contribute effectively to the organizational performance.
  • Apply the basic knowledge and concepts of HRM in a professional context


Assessment Process

Over the duration of your course a range of assessment techniques will be used. Types of assessment include; essays, assignments, exams, multiple choice tests, online tests, group reports, and portfolio work. The weighting between exams and coursework varies between semesters and years, but exams play a major role in the final outcome

Diploma Course Descriptions

Secondary School Certificate

Students applying for admission to any of the ECT academic programs must be graduates with a UAE Secondary School Certificate, or its equivalent, as stated in the admission requirements set in the Ministerial Decrees (No. 200/year 2004 and No 133/year 2005), in addition to meeting the following admission requirements:

  • All applicants for ECT’s programs must achieve a recognized and official secondary school certificate, or its equivalent, showing successful completion of secondary education.
  • All applicants who studied at private schools have to be graduates from a school that is licensed and recognized by the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
  • Students who complete a UAE General Secondary School Certificate must achieve a minimum score of 60% for entry to ECT’s under-graduate programs, according to the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. However, students with scores of less than 60% can study in the Foundation Certificate program and should pass five courses, before they proceed to the college programs, namely:

  • Students with Industrial, Applied Technology, Commercial and Agricultural Secondary School Certificates and with a minimum score of 65% can be admitted to ECT programs. However, students with these certificates and with scores less than 65% can be admitted in the Foundation Program. Students under this category should provide an equivalency from the Ministry of Education.
  • Applicants from foreign schools that follow systems of education applied in their native countries, which have two levels of secondary school education, have to complete the higher level of secondary education in order to be admitted.


Additional Requirements

To apply for any program offered by ECT, prospective students must submit:

  • Admission application (completed in full, signed and dated) Copy of a valid passport, with the UAE residence visa (if appropriate)
  • Originals or certified copies of all ‘attested’ education certificates including completion certificates and transcripts  from other higher education institutions for transfer credit purpose
  • English Proficiency Certificate (if appropriate)
  • 2 Passport size photographs
  • A receipt to prove the payment of the non-refundable application fees.

*Prospective students must sign pledges at the Admission Office in order to complete the file.*Applicants who have submitted applications with missing information will be requested to provide required information prior to a full assessment of the application can be undertaken.

Proficiency in English

An adequate level of English language proficiency is required for admission. Applicants are required to present one of the following certificates of proficiency:

  • For English programs:
    1. Valid certified TOEFL results equivalent to 500 (173CBT, a 61 iBT) or above
    2. Valid certified IELTS results band 5.0
    3. Valid certified PTE A score of (36-41) is equivalent to an IELTS score of 5.0, and a PTE A score of (44) is equivalent to TOEFL 500 (173CBT, a 61 iBT). Otherwise they may undertake a course of remedial or intensive English, but must achieve the required score before they can proceed into their academic programs.
  • For the Arabic program “Mass Communication and Public Relations”, students should submit a TOEFL certificate with a score of 450, or equivalent. A student with a score of 400 can study the first year program but needs to obtain a 450 score before proceeding to the second year.
  • For the Foundation Certificate Program, students who are admitted in the Foundation Program at ECT and wish to pursue their higher education also at ECT and have successfully completed the requirements of the Foundation Certificate Program must meet the English proficiency requirement.
  • Students who can’t provide a proof of English proficiency upon admission will be required to undertake remedial or intensive English courses provided by the ECT.


Policy Concerning Students Studying Remedial English (ESL) at ECT

The students who are studying remedial English courses (ESL) at ECT, prior to achieving the required TOEFL 500 or English Proficiency score as stated above (part c: Proficiency in English), are eligible to register provided that they fulfill all other admission requirements for ECT academic programs, in only eight ECT general education courses namely:

Students are categorized according to their placement test/TOEFL results into the one of the five levels of remedial English. At each level of ESL courses, a student can register simultaneously into two of the eight general education courses as specified above.
