Dear Colleagues, ECT Faculty and Staff

Greetings to all of you who are on duty or on leave for the rest of the Spring Break.

As I have mentioned in our last face-to-face two consecutive meetings (First with Faculty, then with staff) you will be updated on a regular basis by emails sent from (Office Of The President – OTP) to All Faculty& Staff (like this current email) or to the concerned faculty/staff members. Such OTP updates will be brief and to the point. In case of any contradiction in information or instructions, please note that the newer update prevails, based on information and instructions received by the OTP from MOE and pertinent authorities.

It is critical that we take all necessary measures and be prepared to continue our operations efficiently and effectively, while responding to the unique demands in the upcoming weeks for our students, employees, and the community at large. 

As of today, I am pleased to share with you the following updates. Even though most of them are related to Faculty, it is important that all staff is aware of the type of operation and expected tasks starting next week:

The preparation of the documentation for the use and for the follow up on the ECT e-learning and LMS system is progressing very well. Please find attached for your information the first version of the (Lecturer_Manual_DistanceLearning_Ver1.2_20200316.pdf), in addition to the background image to be used by all instructors (Distance Learning Hub-01.png). Important Note: the lectures are all automatically recorded, and once you start the meeting it will start the recording on the cloud. So please prepare yourself before starting the meeting. Also, consider disabling auto start of video for lecturer and students (check Page number 5 – Figure number 3 in the attached Lecturer Manual. For any comments on the attached lecturer manual, please send an email directly to Mr. Bahaa ([email protected]).

Also find attached the file for Courses Timetable of next Sunday 22 March 2020 (CoursesTimetable_Spring2020_03-16.pdf). Special attention must be given to the highlighted section in the first page of the Courses Timetable attachment, which includes the first 17 courses scheduled to be delivered through the e-learning system in the period 9:30 am-2:00 pm on Sunday 22 March 2020. All instructors will deliver their classes from their offices in the ECT using the Headphones and Cameras they have been provided from the ECT, and which have been utilized in the practice and video conferencing sessions held during last week. Please keep practicing and improving your skills on the (ZOOM/Moodle) system. You are expected to be ready to deliver your lectures effectively as per the attached schedule.

 A Template is being developed for the use of the Heads of Department (HoD’s) for proper documentation, quality control, and continuous improvement. Main data to be filled in the template will include: Instructor connecting time, end time, number of registered students, number of students attended online. All the numbers are available by the system ZOOM/Moodle for the HoD’s to use in preparation of the follow up template. The Template will be sent to all HoD’s in a future email with proper instructions.

 After we have provided all Faculty and Instructors with proper equipment (Camera, and Headphone for each) in addition to a ZOOM account, most of ECT non-faculty staff will be provided on Sunday with the same for their own use, and to be ready for any future distant operations contingency in a video conferencing mode if needed.

 ECT leadership and the on-duty team are meeting continuously to assess and appropriately respond to new developments as they evolve, and to adjust our operations to maintain continuity of effective operation, in accordance with the guidance from government and public health authorities in the UAE.





Dear ECT Students,

As it has been announced by the UAE Ministry of Education, all on-campus classes have to be suspended for 4-week period from Sunday 08 March until 04 April 2020.
Accordingly all students must be off-campus from 08 March until 04 April, 2020.
Although on-campus classes are suspended, students are required to proceed with your coursework remotely in an off-campus mode, and to continue with your classes online as per the information that will be provided to them by their course instructors, in accordance to the following Calendar :

  1. The Period (08 March – 19 March 2020): It is the Spring Break period for all students, replacing the previously planned Spring Break period (29 March – 04 April, 2020).
  2. The Period (22 March – 04 April 2020): All students are required to attend online-classes remotely (off-campus) as per the instructions that will be communicated to them through their course instructors.
  3. Sunday 05 April 2020: Students shall resume normal classes on campus, unless they receive different instructions from the Office of the President, based on new development and/or announcements from the Ministry of Education.

Your instructors will follow up with you regarding coursework, and submission requirements during the period that classes are conducted remotely.
Please make sure that your ECT student email is active and checked frequently, and refer always to the ECT website for further information, and in particular to the following online link for all follow-up and updates (

  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • When sneezing or coughing, be sure to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands).
  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
