The Emirates College of Technology (ECT) hosted the External Review Team from the Ministry of Education (MOE) on June 16 -19, 2019, for the Initial Accreditation of BSc in Civil Engineering, BSc in Mechanical Engineering, BSc in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.
The External Review Team was chaired by Prof. Kenneth Ball, George Mason University, USA; and membership of Prof. Mary Kasarda, Virginia Tech, USA; Prof. William Highter, University of Massachusetts, USA; Prof. Allen Miller, Ohio State University, USA; Prof. Osama Moselhi, Concordia University, Canada; Prof. Jaime A. Camelio, Rolls-Royce Commonwealth, Professor of Advanced Manufacturing, USA; and the Commissioner, Prof. Abdulsalam Ghaith – Commission for Academic Accreditation-Ministry of Education.
The ERT held discussions with the President, Prof. Abdul-Rahim Sabouni, Provost Prof. Ghassan Al-Qaimari, Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer Dr. Wesam Alanqar, and Deans of the ECT. The specifics of the academic meetings were on key institutional and academic matters for the Initial Accreditation of BSc in Civil Engineering, BSc in Mechanical Engineering, BSc in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.
The visiting team has checked the institutional documentation on these programs including, Faculty Handbook, Staff Handbook, Student Handbook, Catalog, Quality Assurance Manual, Policies and Procedures Manual, Fact Book, Strategic and Action Plan(s) – institution level, Strategic and Action Plan – college level, Organizational for both institution and college level, annual reports, assessment information; course schedule for current semester for all programs in the college; current study plan for all programs in the college; detailed faculty teaching assignment for all faculty in the college; complete faculty files, complete staff files; list of books and current journals (related to the program), etc. and the ERT outlined the key outcomes of the inspection visit to the senior management at ECT , and appreciated the significant progress made at ECT.
In the exit meeting, there was an overview of the findings of the ERT; and a fruitful discussion was made between senior management of ECT and the ERT on the key outcomes of the Initial Accreditation. During this exit meeting, the Commissioner presented an overview of the next steps for the College as part of the accreditation process. And Finally, A brief final remarks were presented by ECT senior officers.
